The Lewis Pipe Band are delighted to announce their promotion from Grade 4B to Grade 4A.
This comes off the back off competing at the British Pipe Band Championships in Annan in June of this year, where the Band gained two 1sts in Piping and placed 2nd overall, in just their second ever outing at a major Pipe Band Championship.
Over the past 12 months the players of the Band have worked very hard at improving their playing technique and the overall sound of the Band, and to have this recognised by being upgraded after competing at just 1 competition in 2012 is a tremendous achievement in the Band’s 108 year history. It is also testament to the talent of the players within the Band, as well as the leadership of Pipe Major Peter Mackay and Drum Sergeant Ross MacDonald.
The upgrading now means that the Band will have the challenge of competing next year against more experienced and talented bands, and also involves learning a competition March, Strathspey and Reel set. This places more emphasis on further improvement from all areas in the Band in order to ensure they start off well in their new grade.
2013 will hopefully see the Band compete at more competitions, including the European Championships, which will be held in Forres for the next three years. Getting to these competitions comes at great expense to the Band given the costs of travelling to and from the Island, and so the Band will be on the look out for a willing Sponsor in order to help them meet their travel cost targets.
