South Harris Agricultural Association (SHAA) are pleased to announce that the main attraction at this year’s South Harris Show, which will be held on Tuesday July 30th, will be the Steve ‘Mr Showtime’ Colley Motorcycle stunt display.
This will be Steve’s second visit to Leverburgh, but this year, he promises a show that is “bigger and better than ever”.
For those who don’t know Steve, his achievements include three times British Solo Trials champion, three times World Champion TDN and four times winner at Scottish Six – to name but a few!
Steve’s exhilarating displays will entertain young and old alike, and are sure to keep people on the edge of their seats!
SHAA are also pleased to welcome back their regular attractions, who prove to be so popular with show-goers, year after year.
Mark Wylie and his Drakes of Hazard will provide their usual humorous display; and Chainsaw Pete will be in attendance, and will be carving fabulous wooden creations before people’s very eyes.
In additions to Pete’s display, there will be team of people who will be demonstrating disciplines from the UK Loggers competition. This is a first for the South Harris show and the committee look forward to welcoming them.
For the youngsters, the Show’s fancy dress parade, which will be incorporated into the opening procession, will leave from Leverburgh village hall at 12.00 pm, and will be lead by the Sgoil Lionacleit Pipe Band.
Once children have entered the showground, they should keep a close eye out for Bubbles the Clown…he will be providing fun, interactive entertainment all day, from balloon modelling, to juggling and everything in between!
Children will also have the opportunity to have their faces painted, and to take a turn on the fairground rides which will be in attendance again this year.
For the craft enthusiasts, there will be in excess of 30 tables, where various people will be selling their wares.
For many stall-holders, it will be their first time at the South Harris Show, and SHAA look forward to welcoming them. There will also be stalls selling food on the day.
And for those thinking about taking their pet to the show, the Pet Show, which proves popular year after year, will be back again this year, in collaboration with the SSPCA.
Other attractions at the show will include a Classic Car and Vintage Tractor competition, Sheep Shearing demonstration, Livestock Judging, and much more!
A fun-filled day at the show will be followed by what is now known to be one of the top occasions on the Harris social calendar – the annual South Harris Show Dance, which begins at approx. 10 pm.
This year’s music will be provided by up and coming Uist band, ‘Vallastrome’ in their first appearance ‘across the Sound’ and is sure to be a good night.
SHAA Chairman, Kenny MacLeod said: “We would like to thank all who have been involved in the organisation of South Harris Show 2013 to date, especially Caledonian MacBrayne and Councillor for Na Hearadh and Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Catherine MacDonald, for their assistance.
“We look forward to welcoming people, islanders and visitors, young and old, to our show, which is now seen by many as one of the best days in the island show circuit.
“We believe we have something for everyone, and we hope people will get as much enjoyment out of the day as we do.”
He added: “As always, we would love to hear from anyone who would like to help us out on the day - we rely completely on our small group of regular volunteers, and so any additional help on the day is always welcome.”
