A WEEKEND of breaking dancing, popping, waacking, locking, voguing and more was on offer last week as hip-hop and contemporary dancers Emma Park (aka Pepper Bakewell) and David ‘Boogalock’ Aing visited Lewis as part of An Lanntair’s outreach programme.
As well as a series of taster workshops for old and young, a three day creative project saw young people use hip-hop and contemporary dance styles to create their own piece of dance – and the group performed live in An Lanntair foyer on Saturday (April 6th), to the surprise and delight of art centre customers.
An Lanntair Dance Development Officer Kirstie Anderson said: “Hip Hop and urban dance styles have been growing in Stornoway over the last couple of years, so it was excellent to have two great dancers with a huge amount of experience and expertise in different styles come up here to expand on that interest.”
And don’t worry if you missed out this time as David and Emma are set to return to the islands later this year, as Kirstie adds: “It was a great weekend, and those who took part really enjoyed it. Emma and David will be back again this year, so if you didn’t get involved this time round there’s still a chance to learn from two of the best!”
