THEY won’t be walking 500 miles themselves but The Proclaimers will be handing out prizes tomorrow (Friday, July 13th) to those who are getting active during the festival.

The NHS Western Isles Paths for Health and Smoking Cessation Departments have teamed up with HebCelt this year to offer top prizes for those who participate on the Clan Walk through the Castle Grounds tomorrow.

Other prizes include an Active Pack for a Nintendo Wii, donated by Tech Mobile; garden equipment from Kenny Mackay’s; and wellies from The Crofters for the Wellie Walk.

Saturday’s events will be the finale to the Walk 500 Miles target. Activity packs containing registration forms, pedometers and step cards have been distributed throughout the Outer Hebrides, encouraging participants to walk 500 miles or as close to this as possible.

Over a 10 week period they have been using the pedometer and step cards to record how many steps they have walked.

The Proclaimers, who perform their headline set on Friday, have already added their support to the Smoking Cessation campaign.
