A lasting legacy for Braidwood girl ‘born sleeping’

A GRIEVING couple whose little daughter was stillborn last year set out to raise funds to make things a bit easier for other families facing the same tragedy.

Vicky and David Rogers hoped to raise £5000 to help create a family room at Wishaw General, away from the ward, where other heartbroken couples could spend time with tots “born sleeping”.

This week they were back at the hospital to hand over a cheque for £20,403 – and, best of all, they brought their baby son Jude with them.

Following the tragedy last January, the Braidwood couple began raising funds for their Nell’s Footprints campaign in May last year.

“We thought if we got £5000 that would be amazing,” said Vicky, describing the £20,403 total as astonishing.

The fundraising took the heartbroken parents only months, from May until the end of the year.

“It gave us a focus,” said Vicky. “It has given us a memory for Nell.

“Only a few people actually got to meet Nell when she was born, but now most people in the area will remember her.

“And the room will be a lasting legacy. It will help others down the line.”
