Highlands and Islands Labour MSP Rhoda Grant has written to the new Public Health Minister Michael Matheson to demand that Multiple Sclerosis sufferers in the Western Isles get a dedicated nurse.
She has been campaigning for NHS Western Isles to appoint a specialist MS nurse for some time and had contacted Mr Matheson’s predecessor Shona Robison on this issue.
In her letter to Mr Matheson she states: “As you will know, NHS Western Isles has submitted a report to the Scottish Government on this matter.
“The present position is that the MS Co-ordinator’s post is due to terminate on 6th June, meaning that no MS services will be available on the islands after that date. I understand that NHS Western Isles is waiting to hear back from the government on this and I would be obliged if you could advise me when you anticipate they may hear back from you.”
