The Armed Forces Day Flag Raising Event took place at Perceval Square, Stornoway this morning (Monday).
Comhairle Convener, Cllr Norman A MacDonald, said: “It is very important that we remember those who are currently serving in the forces and those who gave their lives for the freedom that we enjoy today and I would like to thank everyone who was present at the ceremony.
“I’d also like to particularly thank The Nicolson Institute Pipers who opened and closed the ceremony.”
Francis Jefferson of the Lewis Branch of the Royal British Legion raised the flag and it was then lowered to half-mast in respect and memory of MP Jo Cox who passed away last week.
Although Armed Forces Week finishes at the end of this week, the flag will remain up until Monday 18th July when there will be an Armed Forces Parade at Perceval Square, Stornoway. The 7Scots Pipe Band and the Lewis Pipe Band will be present to play and there will also be a salute and the lowering of the flag.
