Assault, house fire and drugs supplies

At 11.40pm on Sunday, January 24th a 25 year old was arrested for domestic assault and resisting arrest following an incident at an address in Stornoway.

He appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Monday morning from custody.

House fire

On Sunday afternoon (January 24th) a house fire was reported in Tarbert, police and fire services attended and a 50 year old female was removed from the house with smoke inhalation.

She was initially treated at Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow for further treatment.

Police report that at this stage there are no suspicious circumstances to the fire.

Penalty

Just after midnight on Sunday January 24th a 24 year old male was arrested at Bennadrove Road, Marybank for Breach of the Peace. He was issued an anti-social behaviour penalty and released from custody.

Sentenced for drug offences

Officers from Police Scotland Specialist Crime Division, based in Inverness, have led a major operation to target drug supply in the Inverness area.

As a result, enforcement action took place resulting in the search of an address in the Raigmore area where individuals were arrested for drug offences, including the alleged supply of various controlled drugs.

As a result of this Andrew Donald Cairns from Inverness and Mark Andrew Hammersley from Manchester were sentenced to five years seven months and five years three months respectively at Edinburgh High Court on Thursday 21 January 2016 for their involvement in drug supply.

This enforcement resulted in the seizure of cocaine, heroin, amphetamine and diazepam as well as large amounts of mixing agents valued at approximately £300,000 as well as a large five figure sum of money.

Detective Inspector William Nimmo, said: “People who deal in drugs cause misery to the lives of many people and have a devastating effect on communities.

“The successful reporting and prosecution of these individuals sends out a strong message that if you deal in drugs you stand to lose everything.

“We are keen to disrupt the supply of drugs in the Highlands and Islands and to reduce the availability of these harmful substances on our streets.

“We will continue to pro-actively target the individuals involved in such activity and welcome any information from the public in relation to drug use and dealing.

“Recent targeted activities demonstrate how partnership working formed around listening and responding to the concerns of the community can lead to positive action being taken.
