Pilot asymmetric school week timetables in Castlebay and Sgoil Lionacleit are ‘going well’, council officers reported this week.
On Tuesday, September 3rd, members of Comhairle nan Eilean Sair’s Education and Children’s Services Committee were updated on the pilot progress – which could see the format extended to all island schools.
Councillors heard that Sgoil Lionacleit had found the new format help with budget targets; and both school report a benefit in the subject choice now available to pupils.
The authority now hope to pilot aspects of the asymmertic week in some Uist primary schools this session. And it is expected that Sir E Scott and The Nicolson Institute may follow suit next year.
A council spokesman said: “Based on our experience to date we are optimistic that the asymmertic week provides positive opportunities for student and staff.
“We hope that the pilots currently being undertaken will provide a basis to extend this model to all our secondary schools in the future.
“However this is subject to further discussion and work with schools and parents.”
