Bòrd na Gàidhlig seeks to appoint new Ceannard (CEO)

Since June last year, an interim leadership team has been working closely with Board Members and staff to ensure the organisation continued to operate effectively following the resignation of the former Ceannard.

Allan MacDonald said: “It’s been ten years since Bòrd na Gàidhlig was established under the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 and much progress has been achieved over the last decade.

“We are now looking for someone to take on the role of Ceannard to build on that platform and provide inspirational leadership to the organisation.

“We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to take forward Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s priorities and work closely with the Gaelic community, particularly in the development of the new National Gaelic Language Plan and Guidance for the Education (Scotland) Bill 2015.

“It is time for a change, to take stock of what our priorities are and how we can better engage with the Gaelic community. In taking this forward, our first step is to appoint a new Ceannard. I look forward to the process and would welcome all applications.”

The previous interim Ceannard, Joe Moore, has returned to Scottish Natural Heritage to continue his role as Director of Corporate Services.

The role of Ceannard and Accountable Officer will now be covered temporarily by Bruce Robertson, a member of the interim leadership team, while the Bòrd carries out the appointment process.

Mr Robertson has formerly worked as Director of Education, Culture and Sport at both Highland and Aberdeenshire Councils and has worked in advisory roles within the Scottish Government and the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland.

Allan MacDonald added: “We are very grateful to Joe Moore for the time he has given to the Bòrd as interim CEO until now and wish him well in returning to his role as Director of Corporate Services at Scottish Natural Heritage.

“We are also grateful to Bruce Robertson for his help in continuing to ensure that Bòrd na Gàidhlig functions effectively.”
