Bidding goes wild for Runrig-signed shirt worn at '˜Last Dance' shows

With bids coming in from across the world, including a Skye man fighting with his wifi in Albania, bidding reached a close last night for the shirt worn by Gary Innes on-stage at Runrig's '˜Last Dance' shows and signed by the legendary band once the final curtain came down.

Bidding reached a phenomenal £4,232! After ebay takes its percentage this will leave a brilliant £3,809 going towards Scottish youth Shinty and development.

Highland born accordionist and founding member of Mánran, Gary Innes had the honour of joining Scottish icons Runrig as part of their ‘Last Dance’ finale shows in Stirling to perform as part of their famous Shinty song ‘Clash of the Ash’.

Gary said: “I’ve been completely blown away by the amount of money the strip has generated for youth Shinty, however it is not a surprise that there has been so much interest as I’ve never known a band to have a fanbase like Runrig does.

“This money will go a long way to help youth Shinty and its development, which will be fantastic for the sport and its future.

“A huge thanks again to the Runrig lads for signing the shirt - true advocates of Scottish culture to the very end.”

Gary was the front-cover image and poster boy for Runrig’s penultimate album, Everything you see, in 2007 and has subsequently joined the band on many occasions to perform ‘Clash of the Ash’ since first taking to the stage with them in Drumnadrochit in 2007.

While on-stage both nights Gary sported his No.9 Scotland captain Shinty strip that he wore at the last-ever Scotland win at Croke Park as part of the 2010 Shinty/Hurling International Meet.

When the fireworks closed Saturday night’s gig Gary asked each of the band members to sign the strip, which they all were more than happy to do, as all proceeds from the auction will go to Scotland’s youth Shinty and development.
