Bomb find in Western Isles closes Uig beach


The large grey canister was found on the shoreline and had markings which suggested it was an unexploded device.
HM Coastguard were tasked to secure the area, while the bomb disposal team arrived on the island from the mainland.

Hide AdThe beach was cordoned off and members of the public were warned to stay away from the area until such time as the device could be made safe, and the local area reopened.
A statement from the rescue team said: “Miavaig, Breasclete, Ness & Bragar Coastguard Rescue Teams were tasked to reports of ordnance found on the shoreline in Uig, Isle of Lewis.
“Explosive Ordnance Units and Faslane have been contacted and the area was cordoned off and manned until their arrival.
“Members of the public were asked to stay well clear of the area until after the unexploded item had been disposed of safely.”
