Brand new (ish) combine harvester

A 1968 Deutz-Fahr combine harvester could be seen working hard on Melbost Farm last weekend as Mark Tayburn, of Abhainn Dearg Distillery, began harvesting the first locally grown barley to be made into whisky.

Around six tones of barley (enough for approximately 5,000 bottles) will be harvested from the 4.7 acres of farmer Angus Mackenzies’ land, just outside Stornoway.

It is hoped in the future all the barley needed for the distillery will be grown on the islands.
