Busy season for Highland dancers

It has been a busy season so far for the dancers in the Sharon Mackinnon Highland Dancing School between competitions both locally and off the Island.

The girls did well at the Uist Mod, coming home with numerous medals and trophies and this good luck has continued whilst the girls competed in the Highland section of the Heb Celt competition and most recently at the North Uist Highland Games.

Dancer Mairi Maclennan from Balallan, competed at the South Uist Games and successfully qualified for the Hebridean Isles team to represent the Isles at the Scottish Area Finals to be held in Oban 2016 and also went on to dance at the City of Inverness Championships, gaining great placings in each of her dances in the Premier 11 years Pre-Championship section.

For those who have not been competing, they have been busy performing at local events throughout the Island such as the Lochs Show and Uig Gala and are now busy preparing to compete at the Mackinnon Festival this Friday, 7th August at the North Lochs Community Hall at 9.45am.

Mackinnon Dancers would like to thank the following businesses for their kind donation of new trophies to be added this annual summer competition:

Lochs Motor Transport Ltd, Cal Max Construction, Duncan MacIntyre NFUM Insurance, Rarebird, Shawbost Shop & Café, Highland Hustle Isle of Lewis, Carloway Mill, Tanya Horne Dancers, Dannsairean an Eilean Sgitheanach, Maybury Gardens, K J Macdonald Ltd, Bruce Mackenzie Joinery, Colour Centre, Sharon Macdonald and Autpoparts Stornoway.

Doors will open at 9.15am for the Mackinnon Festival and everyone is welcome.
