Carloway Community Council - a reminder that the Community Council will be holding a meeting in the Carloway Day Centre on Monday 6th July, starting at 7:30pm. All welcome.

Buth Charlabhaigh - the Carloway Community Shop Steering Group will be holding its next meeting on Thursday 2nd July in the Carloway Day Centre, starting at 7:30pm. All welcome.

Carloway Football Club - is interested to find out the number of supporters that wish to attend next month’s Co-operative Cup semi-final against Barra, which is scheduled to take place in Uist on Saturday 25th July.

Bus seats will cost £15 (£5 for under 16s) per head, which excludes the cost of ferry tickets that supporters must purchase separately. If you would like to book a seat, please get in touch with Jim Crossley on 07809728121 by Monday 6th July, when the club’s next meeting will be held. Payments must be made before the deadline and will be non-refundable.


Gaelic Service - The next Gaelic Service in the Dingwall Community Centre on Tulloch Street will be on Sunday the 5th of July. On this occasion the Rev Donald Maclennan [Rtd] will lead the worship. Mr Maclennan’s last charge was in Kinloch Church of Scotland in Lewis but today resides in Inverness. The service to which all are welcome begins at the usual time of 3:00pm.


Bernera Community Association - It is hoped to make further progress with maintenance to the hall and future dates will be discussed at the next meeting on 1 July. We are looking into funding options and future use of the petrol pumps in Bernera and will try to progress this as quickly as possible.

The Bernera café is open daily Monday – Friday from 11am to 4pm so please come along and support your community café.

Bernera Community Council - We are very hopeful that we will have some nice weather shortly and a date can be found to paint the bridge. Many volunteers would be required so please come and help.

School News - Andrew Macinnes, John Maciver and Rachel Smith enjoyed a recent trip to Barcelona with the Nicolson Institute and along with other cultural events they made at trip to the Barcelona Stadium. We hope they all thoroughly enjoyed the trip and that it was very educational.

Bernera Primary held its annual prizegiving on Wednesday 24th June and congratulations to all those pupils who were awarded prizes. The school dux this year was Rebecca Macaulay on P7 and we wish her and Faith Longmuir great success as they move to the Nicolson Institute.

At the Nicolson Institute senior prizegiving both Amy Macleod and Andrew Macinnes were awarded prizes and we congratulate them.

Bowls Group - Bernera Bowling Club are having an Open Day in the community centre on Sat. June 27th and July 11th from 2-4pm. They would love you to come along and have a try and all ages are very welcome. Phone Chris on 612202 if you would like any more info.

Sympathy - The funeral was held recently of Margaret Ann Macphail from Laxdale whose family came from 1 Breaclet. We send our sympathies to her family.


St Columba’s Church - There will be a special church service on Sunday 5th July in St Columba’s Church, Lewis Street at 11am called ‘ Sea Sunday’.

It is a service of Thanksgiving for all the people who serve our islands through the sea and those who work at sea.

People involved in the RNLI, Coastguards, Lighthouse Service, Merchant and Royal Navies, the Fisherman’s Mission, Cruise Ambassadors, Stornoway Port Authority, Offshore Workers are invited to attend along with their families and friends.

As an island, we are dependent on them and are grateful for their dedication and commitment.
