Call for ‘hats on’ in the Western Isles to help older people

Age Scotland invites everyone in the Western Isles to have fun and raise money to help older people by taking part in Wear a Hat Day on Friday 2nd December.

Funds raised will support older people’s groups locally – over this past year Age Scotland grants have supported Tagsa Uibhist’s Christmas Get-Together for their social groups; Stornoway Old People’s Welfare Association with their kitchen refurbishment and Tighean Innse Gall with a fire safety project. Age Scotland’s national services, including the Charity’s information Helpline for older people - 0845 125 973 - will also benefit.

Jo Cowan, Age Scotland’s Development Officer for the North, says: “Taking part is easy and open to everyone - simply make, borrow or buy a hat, and wear it all day. A donation to Age Scotland for each hat worn will make a huge difference to older people locally and across Scotland.”

Charity fundraiser Alison Payne says: “We have loads of ideas for getting maximum fun - and funds - out of the day. Why not use this as an excuse to kick-start the festive season. Organise a ‘Wear a Hat’ coffee morning at work, a ‘Wear a Hat’ pub quiz at university or a ‘Wear a Hat’ fashion show at school. And if 2nd December doesn’t suit you, you can choose a nearby date that does.”
