Candidate looks forward to first hustings of campaign

SNP Candidate for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan, will be taking part in the first hustings of the campaign in Balivanich Hall on Friday night.

He will be spending the week on the campaign trail this week in Uist and Barra, as part of his ongoing efforts to speak to people in as many areas of the islands as possible before polling day.

Mr Allan commented: “The first hustings of the campaign will be in Balivanich Hall, on Friday 15 April at 7pm, when the candidates will be together for questioning by the audience for the first time.

“I’m greatly looking forward to this as it will be a great opportunity to hear people’s views and take in the debate about who will form Scotland’s next Government.

“Both the Uists and Barra have needs and priorities that are often distinctive from other parts of the Western Isles, and I have sought in my time as MSP to raise those issues.

“These have included the campaigns for improved ferry services from Lochmaddy, Lochboisdale and Castlebay, actively working with the community to reject the unpopular application of a pharmacy in Benbecula, the efforts to get the MOD to take a less hostile view of community renewables projects, and the importance of investing in school buildings.

“I will be campaigning in various places between Vatersay and Berneray from Wednesday to Saturday this week, when I will be trying to get round some of the many doorsteps, and meeting people about the issues that matter to them.

“On Saturday 16, the SNP is holding a day of action in Benbecula and North Uist when I will be campaigning alongside Maree Todd, the SNP’s lead list candidate for the Highlands and Islands.

“I will be making the case that if you want to see an SNP Government, and Nicola Sturgeon returned as First Minister, you should use both your votes for the SNP.”
