Barra residents will continue to receive vital eyecare, thanks to the help of Castlebay Fire Station and Specsavers Highlands and Islands.
The opticians held regular clinics at Castlebay Hall, but recent damage to the building by flood waters meant the clinics where on the verge of being cancelled, with no alternative venue on offer.
Luckily, the team at Castlebay Fire Station answered the eye experts’ call for help by offering their station as a base for the mobile clinic.
To say thank you, the store has donated £280 for the fire station to give to the Fire Fighters Charity.
Gary Wood, director of Specsavers in Highlands and Islands, says: “Castlebay Hall was the only suitable venue we could find. We didn’t want to cancel as it would have left lots of patients without vital eyecare.
“Thankfully, we received a telephone call from Steve Wilson from the fire station earlier in the month and he has very kindly agreed that our staff can use the station as a base.
“We’ll be visiting the area next on Thursday 15 January. They truly have come to our rescue so we’d like to say a big thank you. I hope our donation will go some way to helping the Fire Fighters Charity.”
