Castlebay school nursery review

Western Isles Council at its meeting on 15th of December 2011, agreed that statutory consultation should be undertaken, as required by the Schools (Consultation)(Scotland) Act 2010, with parents, members of the public and any other interested body, regarding the proposal to move Castlebay School Nursery from the Children’s Centre to the primary department of Castlebay School.

The proposal on which the Comhairle has agreed to consult is as follows:

Accommodation within Castlebay School’s Primary Department to be made available to house the Gaelic and English Nursery rooms.

The nursery remains within the Children’s Centre building until accommodation within the school has been inspected and approved by relevant bodies.

That children continue their pre-school education within Castlebay School from 25th of October 2012.

The Comhairle has now prepared a Proposal Document outlining details of the proposal. Parents affected by the proposal are being informed by letter.

Other interested members of the public may obtain copies of the Proposal Document from the school during normal school hours or from the Education and Children’s Services Department, Comhairle Offices, Stornoway (telephone: 0845 600 7090) during normal office hours and from the Comhairle website

A public meeting will be held in Castlebay School on Wednesday, 1st of February 2012 at 7pm at which representatives of the Comhairle will be in attendance to explain the proposals. An invitation is extended to anyone interested in this matter to attend the meeting.

In addition to the public meeting, submissions may be made on the proposals by parents, members of the public and any other interested body and these should be submitted in writing to the Chief Executive, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Sandwick Road, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2BW or electronically to to arrive by 5.00pm on Wednesday, 29th of February 2012.
