The event will see volunteers from across Scotland working together to help improve the environmental quality of their local communities, and to take action against local litter problems.

Throughout April and May, Keep Scotland Beautiful is encouraging local residents, businesses, schools and community groups to arrange their own Clean Up events to remove rubbish from local streets, parks and public areas.

Groups that register in April and May will also be able to order free goodies from the UK’s leading bakery retailer, Greggs, to reward volunteers for their hard work.

Last year, volunteer efforts helped to remove over 465 tonnes of waste from our streets and countryside - the equivalent of 93 elephants.

Carole Noble, Operations Director at Keep Scotland Beautiful said: “Keep Scotland Beautiful recently published research which identified that local environmental quality is deteriorating Scotland-wide. We hope that the 2016 Spring Clean will help to encourage communities to come together and help us prevent even further decline.

“Our Spring Clean is the perfect opportunity for everyone in Scotland to join the fightback against litter. We hope that everyone who loves their local area will join us. In return we can support them by providing Clean Up kits and Greggs will provide the tasty treats.”
