Nominations are now open to stand for Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Community Council, with elections taking place on October 1st, 2015.

Sixteen and seventeen-year-olds may stand for election, providing they reside in the council area and are named on the electoral register. Residents of that age may, of course, vote too by the usual process.

Community Councils will be deemed to be established if four or more valid nominations are received. If more than 12 nominations are received for any Community Council an election will be held.

Nomination papers are available from the Council Offices in Stornoway, Tarbert, Balivanich and Castlebay and on the Comhairle website. Valid nominations must be received by September 8, 2015 and elections will be held for any community council areas which have more than the required number of nominations. Ballot papers will be issued by 17 September 2015 and must be returned by 1 October 2015.
