Ferry operator CalMac is amending its pre-voyage safety announcement on the MV Loch Seaforth after a potential misinterpretation of instructions was pointed out by members of the public.
“We are happy to clarify this point and we’re indebted to members of the public for pointing this out,” said Louis De Wolff, CalMac’s head of safety.
The safety announcement referred to ‘lifeboats, life rafts, lifebuoys and other buoyant apparatus’’ rather than “lifeboats, life rafts, lifebuoys or other buoyant apparatus.”
A re-recording has now been made using the correct terminology.
“The wording of our safety announcement was agreed and approved by the Maritime and Coastguard agency responsible for safety on our vessels. This was simply a minor mistake in the voiceover recording which has now been corrected. We do not believe this instruction would have have caused any confusion in an emergency.”
