Stornoway South Councillor, Rae Mackenzie, has written to the Leader of the Comhairle urging him to rethink the cuts to inter-island air services.

In his letter to Cllr Angus Campbell Mr Mackenzie states: “On behalf of the SNP Group of Councillors I would urge you to revisit the whole question of the Air Links between Stornoway and the Southern Isles including Barra which were withdrawn as a result of the Budget exercise earlier this year and to have these reinstated.”

He continued: “I will not go over all the arguments that were put forward at the time, but as I said at the time, this was taking a step back 40 years from the principle of uniting our Islands.

“I am sure that on your trips to the Northern Isles you will have seen the difference in attitude there to inter island air communications, how they value these, and how rightly proud they are of them.

“I would urge you to look at this matter again, hopefully along with your colleagues who voted against these vital services.”
