Councillor welcomes framework

The new street light framework, developed by Scotland Excel, will help local authorities drive forward large-scale LED (light emitting diode) replacement programmes.

The four-year deal is expected to be worth a total of £20 million, and thirteen suppliers – including Benbecula-based Neil Campbell Electrical Contractors Ltd – now have the opportunity to secure a share of this business following a detailed tender process.

Councillor Norman Macdonald who represents Western Isles Council on Scotland Excel’s Executive Sub Committee, said: “I welcome this new Scotland Excel framework that will give Scottish councils quick and easy access to the specialist man power needed to deliver their major LED street light upgrades.

“It’s also good news for the area that Neil Campbell Electrical Contractors Ltd is one of thirteen framework suppliers that could benefit from the money being spent by councils on these upgrades. This follows on from McLean’s bakery being awarded a place on Scotland Excel’s Community Meals Framework last year.

“Sustainability is at the heart of the street light framework. Its key focus is helping councils deliver street light replacement programmes that will cut emissions and running costs because LED lights use between 50 and 60 per cent less energy than traditional lamps. Scotland Excel’s frameworks not only drive forward environmental benefits, but bring social and economic benefits.”
