Crofters preparing for the 2010 act

The Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 is currently being implemented and some parts of the first commencement order took effect this month, namely extending the “claw back” period for landlords from 5 years to 10 years and limiting whom tenants can nominate when purchasing croft land through the Scottish Land Court to a member of their family.

The majority of the Act will come into force through a second commencement order which has yet to be made.

The Crofters Commission has a number of tasks that must be completed in advance of the commencement of these orders and may result in their customers experiencing a slight delay in the processing of applications over the next few months.

The Commission’s website carries information on applications received and also applications determined, however if you need to know how your application is progressing please contact the enquiry line on 01463 663439.
