Crofting Commission

The Crofting Commission on Monday confirmed it had been notified by Police Scotland that it has concluded the enquiry into the circumstances surrounding grant monies obtained from the Western Isles Council to the Upper Coll Grazings Committee, which was referred to it for investigation by the appointed Grazings Constable.

The Crofting Commission notes that no evidence of any criminality has been discovered in relation to any member of the previous Grazings Committee and said it very much welcomed the outcome of the investigation.

The Crofting Commission recognise that this has been a stressful situation for those involved over the last number of months as Police Scotland completed their investigation. We would therefore reiterate our previous apology of 28 September 2016 that acknowledged there has been prolonged uncertainty and anxiety for all those involved. We will ensure that any lessons learnt from the case will inform future procedures and decision making.

We will continue to support the new duly appointed Upper Coll Grazings Committee to assist them in their role.
