Cruising into tourism boost

Summer 2013 looks set to be another busy year for Stornoway Harbour with 24 Cruise ships booked in for a visit.

The first will be the Marco Polo on April 10th which is a regular visit to the islands and will visit Stornoway four times this year.

She carries up to 800 passengers who will hopefully make the most of their time on Lewis by coming ashore to look around.

The Hebridean Princess will also make several visits throughout the cruise ship season.

Quest for Adventure will visit as will FTI Berlin; Astor; Prinsendam; Balmoral; Silver Cloud; Ocean Majesty and Ocean Countess; Delphin and Fram.

Across the water in Ullapool, the Harbour Trust is also building a reputation as a popular cruise destination and received confirmation this week that the award-winning luxury cruise ship ‘Nautica’ will make her maiden call to the harbour in July 2014.

Scotland was named as “Destination of the Year” at the prestigious Seatrade Cruise Insider Awards 2012 in Marseille, France, and Cruise Scotland’s Chairman Richard Alexander also visited the US to persuade more cruise operators to add Scottish ports to their itineraries.
