As part of its Corporate Giving programme, Scottish Fuels, local supplier of heating oil and lubricants, which is owned by Certas Energy, is demonstrating charitable spirit by donating a defibrillator unit to an Lanntair arts centre.

The unit will be is hosted by the information desk, for optimum accessibility for visitors to the centre, passers-by and local residents.

The donation supports the goal of Certas Energy’ charity partner, the Oliver King Foundation. The Foundation was set up to raise awareness of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), which is caused by heart rhythm abnormalities.

The risk of death from SADS can be significantly reduced with the rapid use of a defibrillator – a portable piece of equipment – to restart the sufferer’s heart.

Scottish Fuels donated £1,000 towards the purchase of the defibrillator and associated training after being nominated by Scottish Fuels employee Angus MacLennan,

Depot Manager at the nearby Stornoway Depot on Shell Street. The arts centre was chosen as an ideal location for hosting one of these units, due to its central location in the community.
