Emergency response at Stornoway Airport
The volunteer crew of Stornoway RNLI were stood down soon after and returned to berth at 9.30am.
The full emergency had been called for a Hawk jet. Stornoway lifeboat is routinely alerted for airport emergencies, as the main runway at Stornoway Airport ends at the shore on the north end, and a southerly approach for aircraft is also over the sea south of Holm.

The ‘Tom Sanderson’ lifeboat launched at 2.20pm, but fortunately the aircraft was able to land safely and the lifeboat stood-down seven minutes from launch.
