End of the line for town shuttle-bus

A SHUTTLE-bus service provided by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to assist Stornoway residents whilst the public pathway of Springfield Road was taken out of action due to the Nicolson Institute build is being discontinued.

The Western Isles Schools Project team confirmed: “The shuttle bus service between Springfield Road and the town centre, which the Comhairle has provided since October 2010, will be discontinued on March 30th.”

The service initially began on a six month trial basis to provide additional loop runs to and from the town centre following the stopping up of Springfield Road, yet continued for a year and a half.

However, as the Nicolson Institute build is drawing to a close, and the service has attracted very low passenger numbers, it is to be discontinued.

“The Western Isles Schools Project team would like to thank all local residents for their continued patience, cooperation and support in relating to the ongoing construction works at the Nicolson Institute,” added the team.
