Scottish Government Ministers have decided not to call in Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s proposals for discontinuing S1/S2 provision at Lionel School.
Cllr Catriona Stewart, Chair of Education and Children’s Services, said:
“Discontinuing education provision is never an easy process and so it proved in the proposals for Lionel. However, this was always about providing the best possible education for pupils and whilst I recognise there were concerns amongst parents and pupils it is now important that we move on and provide that education for the benefit of the pupils. The Education Department will begin discussions with parents and pupils next week with a view to putting in place arrangements for a smooth transition period. I am pleased that the Scottish Government have recognised that the Comhairle has met its obligations during what has been, at times, a difficult period for the community and the Comhairle.”
S1/S2 provision at Lionel will end in June with the pupils transferring to The Nicolson Institute.
