Barra Children’s Centre have been chosen to receive a £5000 bursary from the P&G Champion Mum’s Foundation, awarded by Marie Claire magazine, to refurbish the centre’s well used playroom and create a child friendly area within the cafe.
Abigail Treffry, a member of the Centre’s Management Committee entered the competition in September and was asked to submit shopping list for the refurbishment as part of the selection process.
As well as plenty of new play equipment and toys for babies and young children, the refurbishment also includes creating a door between the cafe and playroom to make a great family friendly play space for the community. Creating a link between the cafe and playroom will provide much greater community access to the playroom, which is currently used for Parent and Toddlers drop in sessions.
Barra Children’s Centre enjoys a great deal of support from the local community and Barratlantic have generously offered their help in transporting goods from Glasgow.
In light of the win, flooring company Altro have offered to donate flooring for the playroom, cafe and hallway to put the finishing touches to the refurbishment, and Macgillivrays of Benbecula have kindly offered to help out with the fitting of the flooring. Local Councillors Peter Carlin and Donald Manford have offered donations from Ward funds to help complete this exciting project.
