Fantastic turnout for Mod ceilidh in Uist

A very successful ceilidh was held in Carinish Hall in North Uist on Friday the 23rd of September as part of the fundraising efforts for Mod 2011, which will begin in little over two weeks time!

A group of committee members made the journey from Lewis to attend the event which has been hailed a tremendous success.

The hall was full to capacity and a great time was had by committee members, the appreciative audience and also the talented performers.

Due to the generosity of the Uist audience approximately £1,000 was made.

Performing on the evening were Iain MacAulay, Mischa MacPherson, Neillie Ferguson, Peigi Campbell, Patrick Hughes, Seumas Campbell, Padraig Morrison, Mairi MacInnes, students from Benbecula College and both the Uist and Sgoil Lionacleit Pipe Band and the dance music was provided by the Iain Angus MacLeod and his band.

Preparations for the competitions which will be held in Uist continue to make good progress.

The piping competitions will take place on Saturday the 15th of October at Sgoil Lionacleit and more information on these competitions will be in the official Mod programme which will be able to purchase from Monday the 3rd of October from An Comunn Gaidhealach.

Shinty lovers are also encouraged to attend the Mod shinty cup which will take place in Sgoil Lionacleit on the afternoon of the 15th.

This game will see Camanachd Uibhist battle it out on home ground against Camanachd Leòdhais.
