Ferry company strives to accommodate passenger needs

Caledonia MacBrayne has responded by a call from Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil to review timetables in the Sounds of Barra and Harris by stating that they have adapted timetables in the past.

A CalMac spokesman said: “We regularly review timetables on the Sounds of Barra and Harris and have made changes to a number in response to user requests.

“However, it is very difficult to make major timetables changes to either service without adversely affecting connections, or journey times, to or from the other.

“In addition, the Sound of Harris has stringent rules imposed by the MCA as a result of the unique tide and sea conditions which gives us very little space for manoeuvre.

“We are fully aware of the differing demands from different sections of the community, and would be delighted to find a way which pleased everyone, but this is impossible, and the timetable as it currently exists, is the one which suits most people, most of the time.”
