Fire in Cromwell Street

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to deal with a fire at an address in Stornoway’s Cromwell Street in the early hours of this morning (October 3rd).

The call was received at 2.41am and involved a fire within a double entrance hallway which leads to two flats and a beauty salon. The hallway is located up a flight of stairs from a street side alleyway.

Two appliances from Stornoway, one from Shawbost and one from Ness responded to the call.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used one main jet and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. A 10.5 metre ladder was also used during the operation.

The entrance lobby was destroyed by fire and there was severe smoke damage to both maisonettes and smoke damage to shops on either side of the lobby entrance.

A joint investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out in due course by SFRS and Police Scotland.

No one was injured as a result of the fire and all occupants were accounted for.
