Fuel crisis raised at First Minister’s Questions

Highlands and Islands MSP David Stewart has called on First Minister Alex Salmond to intervene in the Uist fuel crisis.

Speaking in the Scottish Parliament today (Thursday) he said: “The First Minister will be well aware of the severe fuel crisis on the Westenr Isles, where garages are running out of petrol and diesel and motorists are being forced to accept rationing at the pumps. This has serious consequences for the emergency services -Police, Fire, Ambulance Service and Doctors and the public they serve. Will the First Minister agree to urgently meet with Scottish Fuels to find a solution to help the Western Isles?”

The First Minister assured Mr Stewart that the Scottish Government were in communication with Scottish Fuels about arranging a meeting to discuss the crisis and also the issue with regards the suitability of some of the fuel tanks on the islands.”
