Funding Boost for Little Adventurers at Barra Children’s Centre

Barra Children’s Centre (BCC) has received a funding boost thanks to players of a charity lottery.

The organisation was awarded £2,794 by People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The money will be used to support the costs of running Little Adventurers under fives active play sessions in Barra Children’s Centre’s new extension once it’s completed in late October.

Funding will pay for a sessional play leader for one year and the purchase of outdoor and indoor play equipment, including wheeled toys, water play, den building, and balance equipment along with outdoor blackboards and a new storage shed.

The new play sessions will ensure that local pre-school children get plenty of opportunity to keep active indoors and outdoors all year round.

The equipment will be used to decorate the nursery paved play area so that children at Castlebay School Nursery can also have use of it for outdoor play and learning during nursery hours.

A spokesperson for BCC said: “Our ad hoc Little Adventurer play sessions have always been very popular and being able to run them once a week will be fantastic, especially during the winter when opportunities for active play for pre-schoolers can be limited by the harsh weather on Barra.

“The funding will also help us to create a really stimulating outdoor environment to encourage more outdoor play and learning for under fives.”

People’s Postcode Lottery is a charity lottery, where players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for good causes.

As a charity lottery, 50p from every £2 ticket goes to support charities and good causes across England, Scotland and Wales, including People’s Postcode Trust. People’s Postcode Lottery believes in supporting local communities so the money raised stays local to players.
