#Gàidhlig Twitter Day 2015

The second Latha Twitter na #Gàidhlig takes place this Thursday. It is easy for everyone to take part by logging on to Twitter and sending Tweets using the #Gàidhlig hashtag as well as following the conversation and ReTweeting.

Latha Twitter na #Gàidhlig hopes to raise awareness of the Scottish Gaelic language across the globe by trending in different parts of the world. It is a difficult challenge, but we are going to give it a go! We have friends in Australia, the USA and in Nova Scotia, Canada who are getting involved to kickstart awareness in their countries.

As well as creating general awareness of Gàidhlig, it is hoped that Latha Twitter na Gàidhlig will be brought to the attention of more and more businesses and Third Sector organisations in Scotland and further afield, especially Social Enterprises, the Self-Employed and Volunteer organisations. Research carried out last year by HIE identified that Gàidhlig contributes more than £86m to the Scottish economy and @SocialMediaAlba would like to encourage more enterprising people to use Gàidhlig as a means of creativity and additional means of income generation for business and community organisations.

Gàidhlig Twitter Day also has a Hub this year based in @CoffeeAndCraic, 74 Elderslie Street (Glasgow’s Gaelic Community Coffee Shop). Here, the focus is on fun and entertainment courtesy of @CarinasCouch where we hope to have celebrities like @LadyM_McManus drop in for coffee, craic and selfies with the shop’s customers. It’s looking to be a fun and busy day!
