In July 2014, five extremely excited Youth Legacy Ambassadors escaped the peaceful atmosphere of Stornoway to attend Scotland’s greatest ever sporting event – The Commonwealth Games.

The group spent their time in Glasgow volunteering with Young Scot at the Festival 2014 live site at Glasgow Green.

They also attended a youth conference where young aspiring leaders from across the Commonwealth came together to look at how to increase leadership opportunities for young people.

The group had the privilege of attending the Opening Ceremony of Glasgow 2014 and were entertained by talented dancers, musicians, athletes.

The Games were officially declared open when Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth read the message from the Queen’s Baton Relay which had travelled all over the Commonwealth in the run up to the Games.

The following night, the group attended the Rhythmic Gymnastics event in the Hydro.

The Eilean Siar Youth Legacy Ambassadors would like to thank Martin Summer and June Osbourne from Young Scot, Erica Clark and Karen Macleod from Community Learning and Development, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the other Youth Legacy Ambassadors from around Scotland who helped to make the experience so enriching and all those who helped to fund their experience.
