Getting ready for this year’s Swimathon

Stornoway Rotary Club are inviting all to help End Polio Now by taking part in the 2016 Swimarathon fundraiser this weekend.

Being held in Lewis Sports Centre swimming pool in Stornoway on Saturday, February 6th, 6-8pm, this is the club’s third Swimarathon – and it’s hoped this year will be bigger and better than before.

“I think it’s so enjoyable because it allows all ages and abilities to participate and mingle; and it’s a healthy exercise too so people can feel good about themselves as well as about the good they are doing with the funds they raise,” said event organiser Rotarian Jane Maciver.

“This year if we get sufficient numbers of swimmers we hope to run the event in a continuous relay format. It has been a fun event and I think the relay element will make it even livelier than in the part. And organisations who want to take part may also view it as a useful way to boost their own funds also,” Jane added.

As with previous Rotary Club Swimarathons, monies raised are split between the End Polio Now campaign and local charities – and teams who enter can chose their own charity to benefit.
