Guide to voting

With the Scottish Parliament election fast approaching the Electoral Commission is sending out over 2.5 million voter information guides - one for every household in Scotland - to help people get ready to vote.

The voter information guide - which will be delivered between 4 and 11 April - contains essential information on how to register to vote, the different ways of casting a vote and instructions for how to mark the ballot papers for the Scottish Parliament election on 5 May.

Andy O’Neill, Head of the Electoral Commission in Scotland, said: “Every voter will receive two ballot papers at the Scottish Parliament election, one for their constituency vote and one for their region.”

The guide is also available in a number of languages and accessible formats including British Sign Language, Easy Read, large print, audio and Braille.

The deadline to register to vote at the Scottish Parliament election is Monday 18 April.
