Coastguard chief executive, Sir Alan Massey was told to keep his hands off Stornoway Coastguard station when he arrived in town to meet with operations room staff.

For a band of over 70 protesters gathered at lunchtime to tell the Coastguard boss that they wouldn’t stand for the closure or downgrading of the station.

Demonstrators marched up to the door of the Goat Island facility with banners before a number of speakers condemned the controversial proposals and called for the Maritime Coastguard Agency to rethink their plans as it would put lives at risk.
