The Harris Mountain Festival kicked off this Saturday with a whole range of events including the Raft Race at East Loch, Tarbert.
The Race saw seven teams test out their home made vessels in a bid to cross the finish line first.
The race took the form of three heats, followed by a final with the winners of each heat.
The winning team was “Seagull Injuns,” captained by Coinneach Morrison of Scalpay, with a crew consisting of Stuart Morrison, Darren MacDonald and Scot McNally.
Their ingenious raft design consisted of an overturned truckmans canopy with the door sealed up with gaffer tape!
Many thanks to Alasdair Morrison from the Scaladale Centre who provided life jackets and manned the safety boat.
For more photos of the events, as well as the Reinigeadal Hill Race, see this week’s Stornoway Gazette, out Thursday 20th.
There is still plenty to see and at this years Harris Mountain Festival with events right through to Saturday 22nd September.
