Visiting the islands, the Scottish Parliament Day Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick MSP found time for a bit of shopping and bought a Harris Tweed gift for Her Excellency Joyce Banda, the President of the Republic of Malawi, who made her first state visit to the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday.
Commenting on her purchase Ms Marwick said: “One of the many highlights of my visit was seeing a Harris Tweed weaver make this internationally renowned fabric. I was struck by the beauty of the cloth and the strong connection it has for those living and working in the Western Isles.
“I wanted to give a personal gift to Her Excellency Dr Joyce Banda, the President of the Republic of Malawi during her visit to the Scottish Parliament. What better than a bag made from Harris Tweed which is distinctly and uniquely from the Isles.”
