The future of a large Western Isles haulage firm is in question this week.
It is thought that receivers were at Macaskills Haulage office in Stornoway yesterday (Wednesday).
The company employs a large number of employees in the Western Isles and also has a base in Inverness and Stornoway.
The company supplies deliveries to the Co-operative stores throughout the islands and also several community stores.
A spokesperson for The Co-operative Food said: “Macaskills is the main haulage contractor we use to deliver to our food stores on the Western Isles, as well as to a number of community-run co-operatives on the islands. However, we have robust contingency plans, which we have now implemented, and which should ensure continued to deliveries to all stores with little or no disruption.”
