Hebridean Way to boost tourism

A £600,000 funding package has been secured for the creation of a Hebridean Way.

The integrated walk/ cycle route across the Western Isles is a project led by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and could provide two new jobs at Scottish Natural Heritage as well as boosting tourism.

The aim of the project is to attract more visitors to the islands and to complement existing outdoor based initiatives to boost capacity within the accommodation sector and to expose the significant Hebridean nature-based assets to a new visitor audience.

A total funding package of £600,000 has been secured with £240,000 from ERDF, £120,000 from SNH and £240,000 from the Comhairle’s 2008-13 Capital programme.

A Comhairle-led Project Steering Group has been established who will be responsible for the overall delivery of the project.
