Highland development from a Gaelic perspective

Emeritus Professor Donald Meek will put forward an alternative interpretation of 20th century Highland development issues when he gives the 9th Angus Macleod Memorial Lecture at Pairc School, Gravir, Lewis, on Thursday 25th October.

Speaking in English, Professor Meek will be highlighting the radical views of the Rev. Dr Thomas M. Murchison of Glenelg and Govan, whose writings and broadcasts in Gaelic have been largely overlooked or misinterpreted by non-Gaelic speaking historians.

The Angus Macleod Memorial Lecture, organised by the Islands Book Trust and Comunn Eachdraidh na Pairc in honour of the late Angus ‘Ease’ Macleod of Calbost, South Lochs, will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday 25th October at Pairc School, Gravir, Lewis.

Admission is free and all are welcome. An illustrated booklet by Professor Meek, based on the lecture, will be launched at the event. For more details, contact John Randall on 01851 880365.
