An exciting opportunity has arisen for boys age 10+ to get involved with dance. An Lanntair will be developing a six month hip hop & street dance programme just for boys, with the aim of developing a boy’s dance crew in Lewis & Harris.

Funded by Cashback for Creativity, the Boy’s Hip Hop Programme will see a number of dance tutors specialising in different styles of hip hop visiting the islands to share their skills. Styles include breakdancing, popping, locking, krumping & free running and will be delivered by young and enthusiastic professional dancers (both male and female) in a series of free workshops.

The first of these is on 7th December 2013 with Bboy (male break dancer) Robbie Synge. Robbie will be leading two sessions – one aimed at 10 – 12 year olds (10am) and one for 13+ (12pm). He will introduce the boys to floor work, foot work, freezes and more. This is a must for any boys interested in street dance –both those with some experience and boys who are brand new to it.

Dance tutors will also be visiting schools over the next six months so look out for opportunities to get involved there too.

Dance Development Officer, Kirstie Anderson comments: “I’m so excited to have this opportunity to develop the boys’ dance scene. We’ve tried one off workshops in the past and always had a good response however this is a chance to do something on an ongoing basis and enable participants to improve their skills in a boys only environment.

“Dance is great fun, good exercise, and great for boosting confidence and making new friends.”

Tickets are free but must be booked in advance from the an Lanntair Box Office in person or online.
