Island events to mark Memorial Day
This is the 4th year that Holocaust Memorial Day has been publically commemorated in Stornoway.
The 2016 theme is ‘Don’t Stand By’.
The events to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day in Stornoway are organised by the Western Isles’ Diversity and Equality Steering Group (DESG) and is one of twenty taking place in Scotland:

Hide AdIn the Islands the event includes a Seminar for invited representatives from our public bodies and from the third sector to raise awareness of equality and human rights issues on January 27th at Stornoway Town Hall.
The other event is a diverse live music, audio and visual experiences in the town’s an Lanntair centre at 7.30pm on the 27th January 2016.
Music will range from classical to rock and from folk to country. There will be solo instrumentalists, solo singers, a choir, a band, and an orchestra! There will even be an opportunity for the audience to participate.
Slides, excerpts from a film, some animation and dialogue from a host of guests from diverse backgrounds will create a background for this musical event.

Hide AdAn opportunity will also be provided before and after the event at an Lanntair to sign the Book of Commemoration.
There will also be an opportunity to see the candle designed by Sir Anish Kapoor which was commissioned last year to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenhau.
