A little girl from Shawbost is donating one of her most treasured possessions to help support other children - her long hair.
Nine year old Shannon Crossley from Carnan Park, Shawbost, is raising funds for the Little Princesses charity which provides wigs free of charge to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other illnesses.
Shannon’s mum told her the story of a little boy who had grown his hair long, and although he was bullied, he continued to grow it so he could donate it for wigs. Shannon was so inspired by his story that she wanted to do it herself.
Her family helped her to set up a JustGiving page and she was now raised over £700.
Step mum Gwen explained that they had originally aimed to raise £150 but thanks to the generosity of staff at Harris Tweed Hebrides this total has now gone up significantly.
Shannon plans to cut her hair into a short bob around July 10th and the hair and the money raised will go to Little Princesses. The charity was supported by pop sensation Jessie J in 2013 who shaved her head and donated her hair.
